Hughton storms Ghana for Black Stars job

Former Brighton and Newcastle manager Chris Hughton is set to take charge of Ghana.

Hughton is in line for the post of national team boss with troubled Ghana in a bid to bring them to the World Cup finals.

Hughton (63) has been out of work since September, when he was sacked by Nottingham Forest, but there is still interest in the former Brighton and Norwich boss. He landed in Ghana for talks with their FA earlier this week about the vacancy of national team boss, says theSunday World.

Ghana, ranked 52nd in the world, are in crisis after a dismal showing at the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon, where they managed just one point from three games, and Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac was sacked right away.

It's been reported locally that Ghana's minister for sport ordered an investigation into their flop at the finals and also demanded that Rajevac was dismissed with a revamp of their FA's leadership.

They have a World Cup play-off, over two legs, against Nigeria on the way in March and the Ghana FA is keen for an experienced coach to guide the Black Stars past the Nigerians, 16 places above them in the FIFA world rankings.
