Aghahowa: S/Eagles lack creativity

Former Super Eagles player, and 2002 Africa Cup of Nations joint top scorer, Julius Aghahowa, has said that the Eguavoen-led Super Eagles lack creativity.

He said this after the team’s first two matches at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria is living up to expectations in Cameroon, accumulating maximum six points following wins against Egypt and Sudan, and now in the round of sixteen with a game to spare.

Indeed, it is hard to say the player tasked with playmaking responsibilities in the Super Eagles squad.

One of the major performers for the Super Eagles so far at the AFCON has been Joe Aribo who has been playing in a hybrid role of half number six and half number 8.

Kelechi Iheanacho who has played as a shadow striker and Moses Simon from the left wing have tried to create chances for their teammates.

Speaking to Channels TV, Aghahowa said : "The fact is the Super Eagles played exciting football, a lot of possession though in the opponents half we didn't get that creativity that we wanted but all in all two games six points we are good to go.

"I think this is a walk in the park. The last game is just for us to play those players that have not had game time."

Of the four goals scored by the Super Eagles at the AFCON, only Aribo and Simon have been credited with an assist.
